BSS has formed 283 village disaster management committees that assess risk, plan and carry out projects by leveraging funds; more than ₹200 crore has been leveraged. The model appears in Bihar’s DRR Roadmap as the “Resilient Village Program”.

School disaster management committees run in 1,144 schools with 20,608 members. About 10,000 peer educators teach lifesaving skills to about 5,77,186 students, 10,296 teachers and 4,462 non-teaching staff and cooks. This model has been adopted by the Government of Bihar.

We built 9 flood shelters, raised 4 community places and 600 homesteads with low-cost latrines in Bisfi and Madhepur (Madhubani) and Tardih (Darbhanga), and have responded to major floods including 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2011 with shelter, food, hygiene and sanitation supplies.
